The best time to see whale sharks in Cancun is during their annual migration from June to September. What to Expect on Your Whale Shark Tour:
Early Morning Check-In. Check in time 7:00 / 8:00 am depending on conditions. After a safety briefing, we’ll board our boat and head toward the whale shark feeding grounds, which are located about 30 minutes north of Isla Mujeres.
A Thrilling Boat Ride As we head out into the open water, keep an eye out for dolphins, manta rays, and other marine wildlife that might make an appearance.
Swimming with Whale Sharks Once we reach the whale shark area, we’ll locate the schools of whale sharks and take turns snorkeling in pairs with your guide. You’ll have multiple chances to jump into the water and swim alongside these gentle giants, who can grow up to 40 feet long!
Relax and Refresh After snorkeling, we’ll provide snacks, sandwiches, and refreshments while you relax on the boat. Enjoy the scenic ride back to Cancun with plenty of great memories and photos!
Return to Cancun We’ll return to the dock by early afternoon, giving you the rest of the day to relax or explore Cancun.
IMPORTANT:
The shared whale shark tour requires a minimum of 4 passengers to depart from our main dock in the Hotel Zone. On days where we don't reach the minimum, we coordinate with a trusted partner operator located approximately 15 minutes away by taxi or Uber.
If this applies to your booking, we will contact you the evening before your tour with the confirmed departure location and check-in time. Either way, your experience on the water is the same — same whale sharks, same Caribbean Sea, no changes to what's included.
We prefer to tell you this upfront rather than surprise you the day before.
Why is Swimming with Whale Sharks in Cancun So Special?
The waters around Cancun are home to one of the world’s largest populations of migrating whale sharks. These gentle giants can grow up to 40 feet long, and snorkeling next to them in the warm Caribbean Sea is a breathtaking experience. The protected biosphere ensures that these animals are undisturbed, and our tours prioritize both your safety and the well-being of the sharks.
Cancun Whale Shark Snorkel Area – Protected & Certified:
The whale shark tours take place inside the Federal Protected Area known as the Reserva De La Biosfera Del Tiburon Ballena, located north of Isla Mujeres. Our team adheres to strict regulations to maintain this area, ensuring a safe and sustainable experience for both you and the whale sharks. All of the boats are certified with double off-board engines and undergo regular inspections to meet the highest safety standards
